Commonwealth Games – Rise As One United Nation

Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games

All of us in our country at some point or the other have expressed shock, cynicism or have criticized the preparation of the Commonwealth Games in India.

Media reports have gone so far, as to say that the games which were supposed to embody the new rising spirit of our nation has transformed into a slip-shod work to salvage the reputation of the country.

My take on the entire issue has been pretty stable, the jingoistic me want the Games to be a humungous success but the cynical side in me takes over and shakes her head in disdain, in sooth, we need to shake off this attitude of “managing” things at the last moment but now is not the time to think about the much-needed transformation, rather, we need to focus on this contingency.

The games aren’t far away, these are bad times and the integrated nation that we’re, we should be up in arms supporting the games rather than going after the corrupt official, there would be time for that, later.

We need to rise as a united nation and proclaim to the very watchful world that, anything is possible and India has and always will be able to surprise her detractors.

The media has a very important role to play in this global village and needs to stop throwing light on issues which can be taken care of later; after all, these closeted issues can be dealt with in the country rather than in the international glare.

People might not agree with my notion but answer me this, there are two ways of handling this either we throw more slush on it or just scoop the slush and leave it for inspection after October.

There is no denying the fact that there have major goof-ups in the Commonwealth Games but, now, is just not the time to be adding to the woes and tearing apart- the already fairly tarnished image of the Games in India.

There’s a time for everything and right now, it’s not the time for more dirt.
