Allegations Of Spin Wizard Warne’s Return To Cricket!

Shane Warne

Shane Warne

Yes! You heard me right. The prodigious leg-spinner of Australia who unsettled the batsmen in his era has been reported to comeback. And guess what: there’s a website which is up for raising money to bring ‘Warnie’ back. Bringbackwarne.com, the portal says “We offer the Rescue Fund to the King of Spin. We plead him to once again don the baggy green and attempt us to win back the Ashes.”  And to add to this at the back of mind many people believe that he should make a comeback. In a News Limited Poll more than 70 per cent of respondents said that the spin king should return a come back to the Aussie side.

Shane Warne arrived in London on a promotional trip for a chat show yesterday. He was greeted by a bunch of photographers and reporters at the Airport with this “million dollar question.” Oh! Shane so you have decided to come to the rescue of your Nation? Are you really considering a comeback?” Warne in response said that he was flattered by the comeback talk. He stopped short of completely ruling out a return even though it would be a huge admission of the team’s current failings

Earlier, his Daily Telegraph column also made a brief mention regarding the issue. “There has been a bit written in Australia and people have been asking me about making a comeback,” Warne wrote in the newspaper. “All I can say is that it is very flattering to hear those words.”

But, Warne rather suggested looking at the options available in the squad right now and looking for best possible combination. Doherty won’t be retained after being punished badly by the English batsmen and being able to take only three wickets in 2 matches. So, he wrote “Do they opt for Nathan Hauritz or a wrist-spinner like Steve Smith?” He also advised that not playing any spinner or playing two would be a big gamble at the grassy green Perth wicket against England’s Seam attack.

“The pitch is not fast and bouncy these days, so maybe you get a local guy who knows the Perth conditions, like left-arm spinner Michael Beer. Sometimes horses for courses works. Australia have to explore all options and win this next match to get back into the series. They need to look at all avenues and go all out for a win.”

Well, whatever Warne suggests, what came as a shock to me was people willing to see him back to help the Aussie Ashes cause. He is 41 now. What if he comes and bowls 30 overs being wicket less!!Anyways, who cares, I think it’s the aura generated by a prodigious like Warne which may result in a gain of confidence by his team and even psychologically dominate the opposition.
