Australia End England’s T20 Winning Streak

Paul Collingwood would have hoped that Chris Woakes would have saved the match for England this time round as well, however his team failed to score the thirteen runs needed off the last three balls.

Australia who went in to bat first did not start off as well as they would have liked to. With some tight bowling from their spinners England managed to take 5 wickets within the twelfth over with just 80 runs on the board for Australia.

At this point it seemed that England would manage to hold on to their ninth straight win in T20’s. However Aaron Finch and Tim Paine played quite well to end the Australian innings to 147 for the loss of seven wickets. Aaron Finch remained not out at 53 from 33 balls. While Tim Paine who had departed earlier had scored 21 off 12 balls.

Graeme Swann managed to pick up 2 wickets and gave away 19 runs.

England started off their innings pretty well. Ian Bell and Steve Davis managed to put on an opening partnership of 60 runs at the end of eight overs.

Again as the ball was rolling into England’s court Australia struck with the help of Mitchell Johnson who bowled an impeccable Yorker to clean bowl Ian Bell. Kevin Pieterson who came in next lost his wicket in the same over.

He was followed by Collingwood who scooped a delivery to mid off and made his way to the pavilion with just 6 runs to his name off 10 balls. Davies who had played so well was not able to capitalize on his start and lost his wicket after scoring 29 off 26 deliveries.

Luke Wright as well as Morgan, tried to keep the sail upright, however with individual scores of 18 and 14 respectively, they left the crease for Woakes and Bresnan to do the needful.

England needed 29 runs off two overs, which came down to 13 off the last 3 balls. Chris Woakes with his amazing batting ability hit a six off Brett Lee, which left 7 runs to be scored off 2 deliveries. However Lee was too fast to be put away and Australia clinched the victory finally, to break England’s winning streak.

Australia play England in the first ODI at MCG on 16th January.

Hello everyone. I’m a student of Heritage Institute of Technology. Although I’m not very athletic, like every other Indian I’ve always loved to play cricket. In fact at a given point of time I had serious thoughts of becoming a cricketer. Never mind my namesake is doing great guns at the highest level and I think I’m pretty satisfied with writing articles on the very game which has happened to be my passion right from childhood . I would share whatever little I know about the fascinating game and try and provide facts as well as a cohesive analysis of the latest from the game. Thanks for the opportunity!
