Leading Indian tennis pair Paes and Bhupathi advances to the second round of the men’s doubles of the Australian Open at Melbourne. In the match held on Thursday, the war horses kicked out Ivo Karlovic and Dusan Vemica with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 taking almost one-and-a-half hours. In another match, India’s Rohan Bopanna and Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi outplayed the Brazilian pair- Franco Ferreiro and Andre Sa 6-3, 6-0 to enter into the next round.

For Paes and Bhupathi, this is their first win together in grand slams after a very long gap of around nine years.  Although they lost their first set (5-7), the duo did not take much time in taking possession of the second set with a 6-3 win and the last set was almost as easy for them to establish a clean lead with 6-0.  Paes-Bhupathi will meet the winner of the match between Spain’s Feliciano Lopez and Juan Monaco of Argentina and Marinko Matosevic and John Millman of Australia.

Meanwhile, Bopanna pair took just 49 minutes to sweep off the Brazilian pair. They will next face Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Arnaud Clement.
