Australian Open: Nalbandian Slams Hewitt After A Tough Time

The Australian Open, the very first Grand Slam of this is gearing up day by day. With the first round of the matches presently going on, the head on strife between David Nalbandian and Lleyton Hewitt that took place yesterday was note worthy. In the match that lasted for 4 hours and 48minutes, top star, Nalbandian crushed Hewitt with a 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(1), 9-7 win. Nalbandian saved two points before finishing the prolonged match with a thriller victory.

Last year’s runner up AndyMurray turned lucky when Slovakia’s Kaaro lBeck retired with a shoulder problem when the match was at 6-3, 6-1, 4-2 points. Swedish Robin Soderling beat Italy’s Potito Starace in straight sets. This season witnesses 2009 U.S Open champion del Potro’s return after his recovery from injuries.  Spaniard Nadal will play aginst American Ryan Sweeting for his journey towards Rafa Slam.

Clijsters wins over Safina

In the women’s arena, Belgium’s Kim Clijsters ousted Safina in just 44 minutes due to the latter’s injury.  “It was very tough “, said Safina. On the other side, another former no.1 Serbia’s Ana Ivnovic was thrown out of the series with a shocking defeat from Russian Ekaterina Makarova, who is ranked 49th in the world. Vera Zvonareva moved towards her third Grand Slam final by winning over Sybille Bammer with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
