The ICC Cricket World Cup is around the corner. And, spectators across the country have already started speculating the probable 15 for the Mega event. All eyes would be set on the Indian team as they are hot favorites this time to clinch the trophy! And, so the most important thing is the selection of the 15 members for the Cup. I reckon it will be quite a daunting and challenging task for Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Company! Obviously, some of the good players will have to be left out. The final 15 squad is to be disclosed on 17th January.  And, I feel the ODI performances of the youngsters up in the South Africa ODI series will be of consideration.

Let’s have a look at some of the sure candidates to be included in the World Cup squad: The opening slot is surely belonging to the great Sachin Tendulkar with Virender Sehwag. Gautam Gambhir, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina are also certains to follow in the middle order. The maverick Bhajji can also be called to be certain for the spinner slot. And, Zaheer Khan and Praveen Kumar are going to lead the seam attack. Now, let’s have a look at the remaining slots: We can expect two from the trio of Ishant Sharma, Sreesanth or Munaf Patel to get a ticket to WC. We can expect one from Kartik or Patel to do the reserve wicket-keeper role. On the spinning pitches in the sub-continent I feel we will surely have one picked up from Pragyan Ojha or Ravichandran Ashwin. The all-rounder slot remains still kind of dubitable. But, I reckon Yusuf Pathan has made an impact with his recent century against the Kiwis. His brother Irfan Pathan is also with a slight chance for the same slot. And, then, ofcourse we will have someone from either Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma to fill in the extra batsman slot.

I feel the BCCI as always may come with a shocker decision. We can expect a totally unexpected player to make into the list and an obvious being left out!! My final 15 squad for the WC would look this is:

  1. MS Dhoni (Captain & WK)
  2. Virender Sehwag
  3. Sachin Tendulkar
  4. Gautam Gambhir
  5. Yuvraj Singh
  6. Suresh Raina
  7. Virat Kohli
  8. Zaheer Khan
  9. Harbhajan Singh
  10. Praveen Kumar
  11. Pragyan Ojha
  12. Ishant Sharma
  13. Yusuf Pathan
  14. Irfan Pathan
  15. Dinesh Karthik
