‘I Told The Players To Go Home And Have A Drink’ After Defeat To United: Mancini

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini insisted his players to go home and have a drink after the Citizens were denied victory by a superb overhead kick by Wayne Rooney.

The game looked quite balanced, and any of the two teams from Manchester could have emerged victorious, but in the end, a moment of genius from Wayne Rooney and it was the Red half of Manchester that emerged as the better team in Manchester.

The former Inter tactician believes that Sky Blues are now on the same footing with their counterparts. Mancini believes they have the better squad but just lack the winning mentality, required to win the big games.

Speaking to The Mirror, Mancini was quoted as saying “I told the players to go home and have a drink. They should be disappointed with the result, not their performance, I am very happy with the way my team has played.”

“In all of the five derbies I have been involved in, there has been only once such a case that I feel we dint deserve to win.”

“There was no way we deserved to lose this one, but United are this much ahead (he said holding two fingers narrowly apart) by us and all the other teams, Just by this much, it’s very close.

“We need to improve; I have been saying this for the last six months now. We have to come to Old Trafford and play like the way we did, only then we will be ok. I am very proud of my players, they know this. I also told them that I feel we have the right character.”

“After we equalized, I thought we had a chance to go on and win the game. United were not all that great in the second half. But the masterstroke from Rooney changed the game. This is the mentality you conceive when you have been winning games for a pretty long time.”

The Italian though feels he has a recipe for this; he feels a brush of glory is all that is needed for this team to become a great side and get that winning mentality.

Mancini concluded. ”I think we can change his though; we just need a cup or a title. Because over time we have changed a lot, and improved a lot, winning things will change the entire mentality of this team and that’s all we need.”

Manchester city have a realistic chance of winning the FA Cup and the Europa League.  After Mancini feels their title hopes are over, but Sir Alex isn’t ready to strike of his neighbor’s just yet.  The Premier League just got better and more exciting.

Stay tuned!
