Lucknow/Mumbai, Feb 03: As the countdown for World Cup has began, Indian team management is still concerned about the fitness status of medium pace swing bowler Praveen Kumar. He met Dr Andrew Wallace, who is a London based surgeon at the King Edward 7th Hospital on Wednesday. As only few days to go for the beginning of World Cup, Praveen Kumar is still recovering from an elbow injury, which he sustained during the practice match before the start of the ODI series against South Africa last month.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India officials and selectors are keenly waiting for the medical report of Praveen Kumar from Andrew so that then only they will be able to take up a call on him, whether he is ready or not for WC. It is also learnt that the selectors, who are presently in Vishakhapatnam to watch the finals of Duleep Trophy game have not been informed by the BCCI to look out for Praveen’s replacement. If Praveen is failed in his fitness test then the BCCI will have no option but to convince the ICC to allow replacement for Kumar as he was carrying the injury when his selection was done. The defence of BCCI would be that Praveen was injured during the South Africa series.
Praveen Kumar had a very good time having both batting and bowling practice session at the nets of Victoria Park Cricket Academy in Meerut on Tuesday morning. “He didn’t show any sign or symbols of injury or fatigue while practicing and was looking in good touch. He even bowled few overs in his natural style,” said the academy’s coach Sanjay Rastogi on Wednesday. “He was here at the NCA for rehabilitation and spent few hours in the town for some personal work,” Rastogi added.
