Gayle’s Warning Could Bring A Shuffle

Chris Gayle

Clearly IPL is a platform for the young guns to establish themselves. When a local player plays a cameo his national selectors look up to him but when an international player does the same the whole cricketing world turn their heads and glorify that cricketer. Ganguly, Sehwag, were masters of comebacks but Gayle’s current storm could change the entire West Indies cricket board.

Gayle has certainly proved a point in his limited appearance in this season of IPL. His statistics runs at an average of 82 with 328 runs in just 5 matches including a match winning 100,a demolishing 100 to scale team score to 200 and scoring 44 in a blink of an eye to boost their team net run rate. Statistics are not the medium to prove one’s worth but some just can’t run away from it. Form is temporary but class is permanent. The West Indies cricket board seriously has ignited the spark in Gayle and he is not only sending out a strong message but the ongoing things might even bring about a shuffle in their cricket board. With Chanderpaul too firing questions against the board it is all set to collapse very soon.

The West Indies team definitely does not deserve such honors. They are too good a nation, too good a team with legends still walking on the park and with such a historical background this team needs to build again and rise to power. The West Indies team immediately looked off the hook in the mid 90’s but still sustained but after the exit of the legendry Brian Lara they have always looked a team less subtle to produce miracles. West Indies main drawback has been their cricketing board. The money issues still is an ongoing crisis and the boycotts from Gayle and other senior members led their home test series defeat to the minnows Bangladesh. West Indies must simply learn from Australia. Even after the fall of mighty Aussie side after Mcgrath, Warne, Langer, Gilchrist,Hayden, Ricky Ponting still managed without his side slumping down to earth. He stabilized the team and in the process of building obviously they have seen upsets but the long term goal is more important for the future of their national cricket team.

It’s high time the legends themselves take the matter into their own hands if they ever want to retain the name of a nation that had touched milestones that are far behind to even come close. What do you gain from commentating, writing news articles, promoting sport events? It’s nearly time for a shuffle and don’t be surprised to find Sir Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd at the top of the hierarchy.
