Steven Gerrard: Few Quality Signings Can Turn In Around

The Liverpool captain hopes for some top quality signings this summer and believes that some good additions to the squad will help the club.

The Reds skipper is still cautiously optimistic about the future of the club, despite the recent resurgence under manager Kenny Daglish. However the England International believes that some quality addition to the squad this summer will help the club to challenge the League Title once again.

It has gone from bad to worse for the Reds this season. After they failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, Liverpool has suffered another blow, failing to qualify for the Europa League following their sixth placed finish this season.

However, Gerrard feels that the club’s recent high under manager Kenny Daglish, and a couple of quality addition of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, makes the side much more competitive and a dominant side once again to be League Title contenders.

Gerrard stated “It makes me feel very enthusiastic about next season. If we can maintain the form we’ve had recently, get our injured players back fit and playing, and bring a few top quality signings through the door, you never know what might happen.”

“With the belief we have running through the squad, and with the outstanding players we already have, we know we can approach every game with a great chance of coming out on top.”

Despite the resurgence under Daglish, the skipper believes that his side needs to work very hard and insisted that there is a lot of work to be done before arriving at any conclusions.

He further added “When you are playing good football, it gives you confidence to have the bottle to press high up and win the ball back, and that has been the key for us. The danger of course, is becoming complacent.”

Gerrard ruled out that his side is in top flight now and insisted that although the team looks in a very healthy state, an awful amount of work needs to be done.

He further added “We can’t believe we are suddenly fantastic, because even though we have improved, there is an awful lot of work ahead if we are to genuinely mix it with the teams at the top. But with top quality signings, who knows what we can do.”

However, the midfielder feels that the recent success will help the side to go out strong in the next season and possibly be back in the top position. With the addition of some quality players like Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, and may be some top signings at the summer transfer window can help Liverpool to get back on track.
