Andy Murray’s Quest For A Wimbledon Win

Andy Murray’s quest for a Wimbledon win

Currently Britain’s best tennis player and world no. 4, Andy Murray, if you ask me, is one of the few tennis players who has been unfortunate. I say this because; he is a really good player and is very impressive on court. He has a lot of passion for the sport and has no lack of commitment, but somehow in the end, more often than not, he ends up on the losing side.

The likes of Fedrer, Nadal and the recent advent of Djokovic have seemed to get the better of Murray on numerous occasions. He has been playing well at the international Gland Slams consistently for the last few years, reaching a high of world no. 2 for a while before dropping back again. He has gained the respect of the tennis world and is considered by a few as the best tennis players produced by Britain in recent times.

Originally a Scott and also considering himself a Brit, Wimbledon is considered his home ground and he does play better on the grass courts. The people of Britain too seem to pin their hopes on Murray every year as he tries to win his first Wimbledon title since 2005. He does not do much wrong, but somehow he doesn’t look as dominating as the top 3 players.

Losing out to Rafael in the 2011 French Open in the semifinals, he commented in the post-press conference that he played his best tennis; he felt fit and was not suffering from any sort of injury. He added that he had not done much wrong on court but Nadal seemed to do just that bit more to take the match away from him. This tells us that even Murray has little clue as to why he has been losing out to the other big names. He plays really well, no doubt, but I guess not at a level required to be the best in the sport.

Winning the AEGON championship in Queens Club on grass, has reinstated the faith of the people in him that he may put up a good show in the Wimbledon2011. The amount of expectation riding on Murray increases every year as he seems the only Brit capable enough to win the title after Fred Perry won the title in 1936. But if Murray wins the title this year it would be a huge win for himself, more of a relief that he can beat the best.
