Bayern Munich have been linked with Manuel Neuer for some time now. And finally, the club have revealed that the deal has been signed. Neuer had one year left in his contract with Schalke, and it was quite obvious that he would look for a better team. Though he was linked with English champions, the German had stated that he wished to remain in his “Deutschland”.

The 25 year old, who was a revelation in the FIFA World Cup 2010, has been billed as one of the top goalies around and also the successor to greats like Oliver Kahn and Jens Lehmann. He will join Bayern on a five year contract, after a medical and will officially be a Bayern player on July 1st.

Both Bayern and Neuer have expressed delight at the deal. Neuer said he was happy to join some his international teammates, hence not needing much time to settle. Bayern boss Karl-Heinz also said that it was in the positive interests of the club to attain the services of one of the best goalkeepers.

Neuer has played an important part in Schalke’s campaign this season. He was an integral part of the Pokal winning squad. His heroics in front of the goal were definitely a reason Schalke reached the semi-finals in the Champs League, a first in the history of the club.

Schalke have signed Ralf Fahrmann on a four year deal as a replacement for Neuer on a free transfer.
