World Cup Final 2011 - Ball Auction

World Cup Final 2011 – Ball Auction

When did you really see, the blue blood? Movie “Predator”? No that was a fluorescent green blood!…in the commercial for “Gatorade Blue” where the guy tells “It’s in You!” bleeding blue, the real blue blood or the “Bleed Blue” was three months ago when the entire cricket-frenzied Indians jeered for the country and were Bleeding Blue!

There are only three things that can keep an Indian alive besides the [Khanna, Peena, Sonna], they are the Cinema, Chit Chat, Cricket. The 3-C lifelines are next to the palpitation of the heart, in such a country there is no wonder if the World Cup Final ball was auctioned for 64 lakhs! It is not a wonder, nevertheless it is highly crazy. If you catch the figures on the cables, you can find that the World Cup, soccer ball was sold two years ago for 35 odd lakh rupees, but in a paradoxical country where the nation is rich but the people are poor, 6.4 million for the ball is too much!

Sify Chairman and Managing Director, Raju Vegesna topped all the bidders in the auction of the World Cup Final 2011 ball by the ICC by quoting it for 6.4 million INR. He bought it because he loves cricket? Not exactly, I believe he is a man to save all the souvenirs of the sports and arts, he also owns Muhammad Ali’s boxing gloves, the guitars of Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and the ball used in 49ers’ Superbowl Championship win in American Football. The ownership for these relics makes me wonder at times, that this is a mere status-symbol than the personal addiction for the game or the arts. And finally the owner is an Indian, adding to the Craziness-Quotient of India!
