The Caribbean Test begins
The ultimate test for Indian youngsters is up and running. Sabina Park plays host to the first of 3 test match series on Monday. The Indian team will be boosted by the experience duo of Dravid and Laxman and a master tactician, our captain MS Dhoni. Sammy will count on his senior players Chanderpaul and Sarwan as this test series looks more evenly poised for some great cricketing action.

20th June marks the 15th year of Rahul Dravid’s international cricketing career. He would love to spend the occasion lighting up Sabina Park with a hundred to his name. He has been a fantastic cricketer and it’s always a pleasure to see him bat. Laxman, the man for the crisis now holds the responsibility of being the vice-captain of side. His batting was of tremendous advantage if at all there was a sudden middle order collapse in the past but this time though, he needs to stabilize the middle order and sustain the balance. The practice pitch row has cost India dearly as opener Vijay got hit due to uneven bounce and is looking doubtful. Other injury woes include Munaf Patel and he will be disappointed to miss out after a good performance here in 2009. Abinav Mukund has high expectations from the locals here and it will be a test of character and toughness when he faces the fierce short pitch balls. Kohli has had a sensational start to his ODI career and will he dominate in the tests too or become a cropper like Suresh Raina when he was brought in (though he managed a century on debut). Dhoni will look to pile up some runs in test cricket and this will be a wonderful opportunity to notch up some centuries (can be a matured one or a quick fire one).
Praveen Kumar has done so well over the past years in the ODI’s and certainly a good bowler can’t be skipped for tests as is not the case for a good ODI batsman. His swing will be of meticulous importance with the new ball and also his reverse swing could come into play with a 50 over ball. With a good ODI series Amit Mishra will be the first choice for a second spinner slot along with Harbhajan. But the situation is: India might want to play 3 seamers but have only 2 with Mithun stuck in his visa cauldron and might want to play one spinner but have 3. The situation now has been that even without Sachin the batting can manage but without Zaheer it’s almost impossible. Will Zaheer’s absence be felt immensely or can Ishant raise the bar and fill as the adequate bowling partner for Zaheer? We will have to wait and watch.
