The Cool Captains

This week is a pretty merry one, with the birthday gala of the top players of the Indian Cricket Team. He would have seen the Little Master making his debut, with longing eyes without realizing that his own wish will be coming soon on his way of flourishing life. The other man would have seen both the Master Blaster and Dada making records, bringing names, going places. The eyes which longed to join Sachin were those of Sourav Ganguly (Dada), and the silent spectator of Dada and Sachin was Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD). If Dada is a Tiger, well Dhoni is a Lion.

The Cool Captains – Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni

Dada (July 8th) – the journey from Behala to 2003 WC at South Africa [India was the Runners-up, under Ganguly’s captaincy] was the golden period of his life. Soon when he took the captaincy of the team, he became the hot topic for all the tea-time and lunch-time chit-chats. He became a victim of media, high criticism, and broken performances. However he was highly revered by his Kolkata mates, which boosted all his spirits. He had a terrific comeback in 2006 and churned the numbers and made more credits to his ODI career. Well, the “Tiger” is not just in his name, it is in him too, Dada is a very aggressive and a controversial chap, yet he is full of energy, self-confidence and great deal of will power. He has a couple of world records; he is also instrumental in nurturing the young players at present.

MSD (July 7th) – Should I say a word about him? Of course, not a word, not a page, not a book, MSD’s sheer attitude and calmness can be written as episodes. The Ranchi Romeo, I would say, entered into this career and soon took the captaincy; under him were the senior players. Dhoni was the face of the new Indian team, he is no different from Dada, despite facing high acidic criticism he honed his confidence which gave India, and the most wanted, yearned, pined World Cup-2011!

Dhoni shone because of the team or the team achieved under him, or both of them made it happen for India? Anything, that is not the matter, we need MSD to lead the Indian team and the CSK (to hit a hat-trick).

To all the Gangulians and the Dhonians, you have a reason to roar for the Tiger and the Lion this week!

Hello folks! I am Bharathi Murali, 20, a Chemical Engineering student who always look at journalists or journalism students with a little jealousy in my eyes. I belong to Coimbatore now put up in Chennai. Besides writing, blogging I like traveling (on my bike), photography and silence. I have strong belief in philosophy. With regard to sports I just love watching them on TV when it comes to playing them I have tried to play most of the Indian sports with shallow knowledge in each. I am also a part of the University Basketball team and guess more than scoring I take care of defence better and well known for the fouls that I generally commit! I blog at www.thebhavachakra.blogspot.com. In one line I have always admired Bhagat Singh more than Gandhi, I support radicalism!
