Sachin Vs The Team

It looks like Shoaib Akhtar is not the only one to not obsess opposite Sachin Tendulkar. Former Indian Captain Kapil Dev is unhappy about the fact that the country is in waiting to see the master blaster make his 100th century rather than to cheer the team as a whole.

Sachin vs The Team

The topic has been hot ever since the World Cup of Sachin making his 99 hundreds into 100. However till now he is still short of one more. The tour of England was hoped to be the one to give Sachin and his thousands of fans around the world yet another reason to rejoice in his achievement however it did not happen. He is still tied to his 99 hundreds: 51 in tests and 48 in one-days.

Kapil Dev was recently seen upset that the whole country is obsessing to see that 100 flash up on screens rather than a worthy performance by the team in the next series.

“You seem more keen about Sachin’s 99 hundreds and not about how we are going to win the next series.” He also clarified that he was happy about the fact that the cricket idol was close to making yet another benchmark for himself however amidst all the excitement, the fans were forgetting that this is a team game and that the performances of all the players mattered.

Kapil Dev went on to saying that Sachin may have had 99 hundreds to his name however not all those matches were wins for team India. There were just 60 out of those games in which the victory was in our name. Where on one side there is a sufficient reason to anticipate the 100th century, there was also a reason to think about the team’s performance as a whole.

“We have to change our mindset. If we lose the match, what’s the use of statistics? To hell with that!”

He also added on saying that after such a victorious win in the World Cup, the team did not get to enjoy their time. In fact they had just four days before IPL began. They should have gotten the time to unwind, relax and enjoy their achievement after four long years of hard work.

“They should have got more time to enjoy the moment. If you don’t give time to unwind, you lose the passion to play. That’s what happened in England.”

Sachin is the hero of his game however team blue may be blue for the wrong reasons if the fans forget to cheer on the whole squad.
