The I And P And L On To Its Fifth!

It’s finally April; the month of more cricket and more cheerleading in the battle of the states. With awaited winning shots of fours and sixes, cheers of fans, the moves of celebrities and also the sensational voice of an adored singer, the IPL 5 is all set to create the biggest bang yet again.

The I and P and L on to its fifth!

The I and P and L on to its fifth!

The opening ceremony has always been a grand affair, for any mega event and what can be bigger than the IPL at such a time! The gala of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League kick started on Tuesday with Bollywood’s biggest names as part of the opening ceremony. The latest buzz and adding to the excitement was the performance of Katy Perry.

Among the names were Amitach Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Prabhudeva and Salman Khan. Katy Perry did the desi moves on her chart-busting single “Teenage Dream”. All decked up like a true Indian with the Indian-women essentials, she burned the stage with her powerful performance. There were screams and shouts and waves and cheers going on and on. It can only be imagined what level the noise will be reached at the first match between Mumbai Indian and Chennai Super Kings.

There were airlifts, and jiggies by cricketers, recitations, and enactments. Nobody could resist shaking a leg, no matter how much they tried (or pretended to). With stars and sequins, music and fireworks, it was all a glittering night.

Of course there are big debates on whether the IPL is just another money-making, greedy and unnecessary tournament. The auctioning of players, the foreign cheerleaders, the spending of the biggest of the big bucks on the smallest of things have all been torn apart and analyzed in the media. Both sides have their own pros and cons, truths and uglier truths. But when the day finally arrives, and the drums start beating, even the critics sit down in a hush and watch in excitement, cheering their favorite team.

Each IPL seems to have more energy than the last, more audience than the last. No one can quite resist watching the fast-paced, action packed matches, no matter how hard they try. And this is going to be five times more engaging!

So get ready with your pompoms and crazy hats because it’s going to be quite the ride.
