Kolkata Knight In Shining Riders

The yellow fever was spreading faster than seconds were passing but the defending champions, playing in their own home ground, could not stop the riders from shining tonight. A triumphant team along with a euphoric owner and his “cheer girls” showed the true  expressions of winning in cricket. Of course there will be those who will curse and abuse the winning team but the 20 overs lay in front of them: Kolkata Knight Riders won the Indian Premier League 5 well-deserved.

It was a finals that sums up the whole of the IPL journey. There were thrilling sweeps and sixes, cheering crowds, star-studded benches, anxious players in a stadium that was praying as one. Even though only two teams made it till here, tonight everyone chose their favorites and their eyes widened or drooped with every shot.

The match details can be caught up with as to who scored how much and who bowled who out but the finals is so much more than statistics. All the metaphors and descriptions that relate to a game were all magnified, quintupled and erupted from the finals. From nail-biting to an edge-of-the-seat watch to spine tingling to hair raising and heart pounding, there was a dob and dash of everything in the fifth finale of the IPL.

A team that was repeatedly placed in the last few ranks for the past 4 IPL tournaments, this comes as a magnanimous pride for the whole of the KKR family. Of course players like Khallis and Bisla oiled the team and gave them a smooth, superior batting score captained by a calm yet very, very nervous captain; Gautam Gambir, there were many faces outside the white ropes who had a huge role to play in their win. From the bowling mentors to the coaches, it’s a combined effort that brings such a fantastic victory.

The sight of the night definitely goes to the team owner Shah Rukh Khan, He danced, did cartwheels, recited dialogues, kissed the kids and didn’t forget to thank those who stayed behind to cheer for KKR. No matter which team the public supported, who doesn’t like watching an overly thrilled team grab the trophy and give each other the tightest, sweatiest and warmest hugs.
