Raheem Sterling – A starlet in the making

The Liverpool winger has been sensational for the Reds this season and has caught the eye of many big clubs.  His performance have been amazing and has certainly deserved the praise of managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson, which saw him make his debut for England against Sweden last month. The Jamaica born English winger has been a regular starter for his club side this season and hasn’t failed to impress. At just a tender age of 18 he is certainly a great prospect for Liverpool and has played as many as 26 games this season and has gone on to become a fan favourite at Anfield already.

Raheem Sterling – A starlet in the making

Sterling joined Liverpool’s youth academy at the age of 15 from Queens Park Rangers in 2010 under Rafa Benitez for an initial fee of 600,000. He has utilized his chances pretty well and has been a regular starter in the youth side from then. The youngster made his debut against Wigan on 24th of march 2012 . But he managed only 3 appearances that season under Kenny Dalglish.  With Brendan Rodgers taking over at Liverpool and his faith in the young players, a chance for Sterling looked unlikely. He has made the most of his chances and has seen his name on the team sheet alongside Gerrard, Suarez, Agger and Pepe Reina. Rodgers has played him more often than not.

Earlier this season there wasn’t any threat to his position because of a few dodgy performances from Downing. The record signing Downing had been underperforming was going through a slump. But with Downing scoring twice in a game recently the Englishman finds a tough competitor for his spot in the Playing XI. Sterling has to prove himself now for his manager to make him a regular starter.

The Englishman has shown sheer determination to get past the best defences of Premier League. The youngster is creative, has pace and trickery his ability to read the game should be admired. The adrenaline rush pushes him on to perform and at this tender age he has surprised the world with his ability which has earned him a great reputation.  Now it’s just that how he carries himself and where he sees himself in future. Having put an end to the transfer speculation by signing a new contract till 2015. Sterling is all set to stay with Liverpool, where he can work alongside some of the finest and experienced players like Gerrard, Carragher, Reina, Johnson & Agger. The youngster has to make sure that he doesn’t get carried away by his recent performance because there’s a lot more to come. A day might come when he might go on to become a priced asset to Liverpool. With the way he is performing the day isn’t that far.
