WKL: Punjab Thunder trounce Yo Yo Tigers




Ludhiana, November 8: Punjab Thunder moved into the third place with a convincing 67-48 win over Yo Yo Tigers in the first match of the long weekend at Ludhiana’s PAU Stadium in the Wave World Kabaddi League.

The win took Punjab Thunder’s total tally of points to 19 and they sneaked ahead of United Singhs, who do not have a match till Monday. Meanwhile Yo Yo are now in last position with nine points, alongside Royal Kings USA.

In Saturday’s first match, it was Yo Yo who took the lead in the first quarter at 16-14, but Thunder moved into their stride quickly and surged ahead at 30-28 by half time. Into the third session, Thunder opened up a big gap at 46-39 and final outplayed Yo Yo in the final quarter to emerge 67-48 winners.

Yadwinder and Sukmanjeet were outstanding in defence for Punjab Thunder and their raiders in form were Sultan Singh and Talwinder Singh.

Toss winner team Punjab Thunder started the first quarter of the match with a successful raid point. Stop line of Punjab Thunders showed wonderful performance Lakhveer Singh Lakha (3) and Yadwinder singh (1) earned valuable stop points for the team. On the other hand Yo Yo Tigers stop line also exhibited hard rock performance Hardeep Dhillon (2) and Jagdeep Kaka(2) failed the opponents’ raids whereas raiders of Yo Yo Tigers, Harpreet Singh (3) and Gurusewak Singh Goldy (3) showed wonderful raids In an interesting tussle Gurusewak became lucky with third umpire awarding him the raid point. In the end Tigers took the lead at their edge by 2 points with the final score 14-16.

The second quarter started on an exciting note with excellent efforts of stop line Punjab Thunder made a powerful comeback, stopper Satwinder Singh (1) and Yadawinder Singh (2) failed Tigers raids and earned valuable stop points. Yo Yo Tigers also tried hard to equalise the score, stopper Nirvail Singh (2) earned stop points for the team whereas raiders Gurusewak singh Goldy (3) and Maninder Singh (2) also gave a tough tassel to Punjab Thunders stop line. But Raiders of Punjab Thunders Sultan Singh (5) and Talwinder Singh (4) showed brilliant performance and created the lead of 2 points with the score line 30-28.

High spirited Punjab Thunder gave powerful performance in the second half. Punjab Thunder slowly swung the match in their favour. Punjab Thunder stoppers, Yadwinder Singh (4) and Sukhman Jeet Singh (1) earned excellent stop points for their team. On the other hand Yo Yo Tigers stop line tried hard and stopper Kulveer Singh (1) and Jagdeep Kaka (1) failed Punjab Thunder raids. But raiders of Punjab Thunders Talwinder Singh (4) and Gurpreet Singh (5) made strong raids and kept the score in their favour with 7 points lead with the score 39-46.

The decisive quarter was dominated by Punjab Thunder. Brilliant efforts by Punjab Thunder stop and raid lines slowly brought them closer to their win. Stoppers, Yadwinder Singh (3), Sukhmanjeet Singh (2) and Lakhveer Singh (2) were impressive.

Punjab Thunder achieved a convincing win with 19 points lead at 67-48.
