The history of this eight decades old sports festival is as much interesting as the event itself. In 1933 the philanthropist Inder Singh Grewal is considered to be the man who initiated the concept of the Rural Olympics in India. Basically, his idea was to gauge the physical strength, stamina and will power of the farmers in the Kila Raipur Village and bring them together on a single platform. Since then the event has continued to be held in the village each year during the month of February for the last eighty years in a row. The event still holds a special place in the hearts of the farmers in Punjab.

Some of the world’s best traditional games are organized during this landmark sports festival of India. This includes the camel race, dog race, tractor race and horse dance to name a few. All these games are very exciting and equally fascinating as well. Around millions of spectators traveled to the historic Kila Raipur Village to view some of the eccentric performance of the participants in front of their eyes.
