Kolkata to host ‘Srei Kolkata Marathon, 2015’ on Sunday, February 8, 2015




Kolkata, January 22, 2015: India’s professional athletes, runners and fitness enthusiasts can gear up for the upcoming ‘Srei Kolkata Marathon’ – the official Kolkata Marathon, the only marathon in the country that exclusively promotes Indian athletes in the main marathon. This being the eight year of the Marathon, Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, India’s leading integrated infrastructure institution, has decided to support it.

Srei believes that physical fitness is paramount for the wellness of individuals and is therefore supporting this initiative, to make ‘India Fit’. A fit body ensures greater ability to make complex decisions, better concentration, increased creativity and resistance to stress at the workplace.

The race categories include the Main Marathon (for Men) – 42.195 km, 15 Km (for Men and Women – prize money only for women) and the fun run of 5 km. For the first time since inception, the Srei Kolkata Marathon, 2015 will have timing chips available to the participants of the main Marathon and the 15 Km race. The timing chips allow organisers to track runners from the second they cross the start line to the all-important finishing line and is recognized as globally accepted certified timing, thereby adding that added authenticity for the professional runners.

The Kolkata Marathon also has been acting as a platform to contribute to various social causes. The increased number of registered participants, the quality of the elite athletes participating, the winning timings and the rock solid commitment of the sponsors and partners to the event qualitatively adds on to the marathon experience each and every year.

Registration process: Registration forms can be collected and submitted with the requisite fees at the Kolkata Marathon Office: C/o Kennel Club, Mayo Road, Maidan Tent, Kolkata – 16, Ph: 033 22313338 (between 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Sunday) and High Life Management office, 18A Park Street, 18A Stephen Court, Lift no. 3, First floor, Kolkata – 71, Ph: 033 4007-3985 / 2226-8024 (between 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday). The Registration fees for the three categories are: Main Marathon – Rs. 500, the 15 Km run for Men and Women – Rs. 500/- and Rs. 300/- for others to participate in the 5 km Fun Run / Walk. Online registration along with payment of the requisite fees through the payment gateway can be done through the event website, www.kolkatamarathon.com. Registrations will remain open till February 7, 2015.

Prize Money: Being one of the most attractive sporting events, the Srei Kolkata Marathon, 2015 offers a total prize purse of Rs 10 lacs, tagged as one of the highest prize money offered to Indian marathon runners. The winner of the Main Marathon (for men) is to be awarded prize money of Rs. 320,000/- and the winner of the Ladies Run receives prize money of Rs. 120,000/-.
