The sports department is holding regular sports meet in rural areas. The state prepared a ‘sports calendar’ in coordination with education and youth welfare department and has implemented it.

UP government led by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has taken positive steps in providing better sports facilities and improving the infrastructure in the state.

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Croatian government in the presence of Ambassador of Croatia to India, Amir Muharemi. Croatia will offer help in developing sports facilities in the state.

To ensure world class facilities including the hi-tech training environment for both sportspersons and professional coaches. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh said that efforts were on to ensure maximum participation on the part of the players in national as well as international sporting events.

Ambassador of Croatia to India, Amir Muharemi recently met Yadav and lauded the UP government’s efforts in developing sport facilities and offered help in this area. He said his country wanted to extend support in providing international level training to football players from the state.

Croatia is a nation known by its great sport heroes. From football to Basketball, from Tennis to competitive car driving, Croatia could develop strong sport based tourism for training camps for football and basketball teams. Golf courts could also be developed.

The Chief Minister accepted the Croatian government’s offer and directed the officials of the sports department to take necessary action. As Croatia has made a mark for itself in football, training with their trainers and world class sports infrastructure would help players from the state to hone their skills.

The Uttar Pradesh government hiked the award money to be given to sportspersons from the state who win medals in the forthcoming Olympics. Gold medal winners will get Rs.6 crore, silver medal winners Rs.4 crore and those winning bronze medals Rs. 2 crore.

This will not only boost the morale of the sports persons but also make Uttar Pradesh as one of the next big destination for adventure and sports enthusiasts.
