Yogeshwar Dutt pins bronze medal at London Olympics

An obsession to win can defy even the strongest of struggles as it got proved again in case of Yogeshwar Dutt.

Is there anything more important than winning a medal in Olympics? If you think not, then you should have missed Yogeshwar Dutt repechage matches. Determined to fight, fought to survive, survived to breathe, breathed to focus, focused to seize the moments and anticipated to take the opportunities –  is all what can sum up Yogeshwar Dutt wrestling today. It is a spectacle like display from Yogeshwar Dutt, and he nailed everyone with his superb final spin. His eyes told the moments that can’t be described. His tired hands lifted symbolizing that hard work leads to victory if not always but surely one day.

A spin that gave him 6 points and a dream Olympic medal.

Yogeshwar Dutt, India’s 60kg freestyle wrestler wins India’s 4th bronze medal and 5th medal overall at London Olympics. He also became only third wrestler after K Jadhav in 1952 and Sushil Kumar in 2008 to win a medal at Olympics.

Yogeshwar Dutt began his action in men’s 60kg freestyle qualification match against Al Guidea. He went down in 1st period 0-1 but came back well to win the next two periods 0-2 and 2-5 respectively to clinch the match 2-1. This match probably set the tone for Yogeshwar day to come, a fight back day. In pre-quarter finals, Yogeshwar Dutt went down fighting 0-2 (0-1, 0-2) against Russian Kudukhov. The old say of “Luck favours the brave” did proved again. Kudukhov went all the way to finals and gave Yogeshwar Dutt one more chance to claim an Olympic medal at London Olympics 2012.

In repechage round, Yogeshwar Dutt needed three wins for Olympic bronze medal. In repechage round 1, Yogeshwar faced Puerto Rico Gomez and had a slice of luck going in his way on both the two periods. He defeated Gomez 2-0 and moved to repechage round 2, where Yogeshwar came up against tougher Iranian opponent Esmaeilpo Masoud. Like the previous match, 1st period went to toss with both wrestlers scoring no points. Yogeshwar had the advantage and so referee awarded him the point. But soon Masoud challenged the decision, after which Yogeshwar lost the 1st period 0-3.

Yogeshwar victory celebration will be etched in the eyes forever.

Yet again Yogeshwar dared the fate. He fought and clawed back again by winning 2nd period 3-2. In third period, Yogeshwar crushed his opponent 4-0 and thus won the match 2-1. Yogeshwar qualified to play for bronze medal match but he is exhausted already. He fought two tough matches and didn’t hold back anything as he wrestled with all energy. Now in bronze medal match, Yogeshwar met Jong Myong who is not only fresh but also a better ranked player. Yogeshwar went down in 1st period 0-1 as he looked little jaded. But he came with all fire at 2nd period and managed to make yet another come back. He won the 2nd period 1-0.

Now all his hard work, dedication, sacrifice and obsession will be rewarded in two minute of good battle. And if i say, he came like tiger to pouch his meat, then it is not an understatement. Yogeshwar attacked and pinned down Jong Myong, then just rolled him again, again, again & again to write his name in the history. Yogeshwar won the 3rd period 6-0 and the bronze medal match 2-1 at London Olympics.

Yogeshwar Dutt warrior like display of fighting skill will surely make bronze taste like gold medal for India.
