Australian spin legend Shane Warne has been suspended for one match and fined AUS $5400 following an ugly clash with West Indies’ Marlon Samuels in a T20 Big Bash Melbourne Derby match at the MCG.

The Australian who was captaining the Melbourne Stars against rivals Melbourne Renegades was angry when Samuels grabbed David Hussey’s shirt in an attempt to block him from a second run during their innings. Later, when the Renegades came out to bat, Warne tugged at Samuel’s shirt which was followed by a heated exchange of words.
This continued in the next over when Warne threw the ball into the Jamaican’s midriff in an act of throwing the ball at the wicketkeeper. Samuels reacted by hurling his bat towards Warne and this led to a few more nasty exchange of words before the Umpires finally intervened to calm the situation out.
Cricket Australia on Monday found both the players guilty of breaching multiple Codes of Conduct. The 43 year old leg spinner was found guilty on three of four offences and was charged for engaging in an “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with other players or officials”, for showing dissent towards an Umpire’s decision and for using offensive and abusive language towards The West Indian. Though, he was not found guilty for throwing the ball at Samuels which was dismissed as being accidental.
Samuels, who was later retired hurt after he tried to top edge a Lasith Malinga delivery and had to be hospitalised due to the profuse bleeding, was charged for engaging in deliberate physical contact with a player and for his unbecoming behaviour, But, his hearing has not yet been conducted because of the injury where reports suggest that he may have a broken eye socket.
Shane Warne will have to miss the Stars’ must win match against The Sydney Thunders for a place in the semis on Tuesday and was really disappointed with the ban and said that he had been harshly treated. But later he tweeted that he went a bit ‘too far’ and accepted the punishment.
Besides the two, the Stars’ batsman Cameron White was also charged with AUS$ 1000 after he objected to an Umpire’s decision in the game which was finally won by the Renegades by 9 wickets in front of a record crowd of 46,581.
