Records are made only to be broken by Sachin Tendulkar

The master blaster Sachin Tendulkar showed off his renewed form completing his 81st ton in domestic cricket off just 138 balls in the Irani Cup match against Rest of India at Wankhede Stadium. With the latest ton, he also equalled the record for most centuries in Indian domestic cricket, held by Sunil Gavaskar.

Tendulkar looked in fantastic touch as he hit a sparkling unbeaten knock of 140 off 197 balls as he touched Sunil Gavaskar’s Indian record of 81 first-class hundreds. Tendulkar was at his majestic best, as he hit 13 fours and two sixes in his century knock. With this, he has now completed a mammoth 25,000 plus runs in first class cricket, which is second only to the Little Master. Indian castaways Harbhajan Singh and S Sreesanth were knocked around the park by the Master Blaster as they tried every trick in the trade to get rid of him. It took just 139 deliveries for Sachin to post his ton, as Mumbai were led by their proverbial son back into the game.

It was at the same venue that Tendulkar scored 100 not out against Gujarat in his Ranji Trophy debut in December 1988. Then he scored 103 not out in the second innings of his first Irani Cup match against Delhi in November 1989, again at the Wankhede Stadium. Thereafter he made 159 for West Zone in his first Duleep Trophy match against East Zone in January 1991 at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati.

England’s Sir Jack Hobbs leads the 100 plus first class centuries list with 199. Others who top the list for their respective countries are: Don Bradman (Australia, 117), Viv Richards (West Indies, 114), Zaheer Abbas (Pakistan, 108), Glen Turner (New Zealand, 103) and Barry Richards (South Africa, 80).

With the Test series against Australia starting on February 22, Sachin looks to be in prime form. India vs Australia is always special.
