The legacy of number fifteen in the ICC Cricket World Cup

  • Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar holds the world record for scoring 15 half centuries in the history of cricket world cup. South Africa’s Jacques Kallis is the second most successful batsman in the tournament. Kallis has 9 fifities in his world cup career.
  • Ireland a relatively newer cricket playing nation has participated in 15 cricket matches combining the ICC Cricket World Cups in 2007 and 2011 respectively. This is surprisingly higher than the total matches that India, Zimbabwe and Pakistan have played in these two tournaments.
  • Yuvraj Singh was adjudged as the man-of-the-series in the ICC World Cup 2011 for his all-round performance. He took 15 wickets and amassed 362 runs as well. The talented southpaw played a vital role for India to lift the World Cup trophy for the second time in history after 28 years.
  • The Australian legendary bowler Glenn McGrath – the Pigeon holds a best bowling figure in the world cups. His 7/15 bowling figure in a match against Namibia Vs Australia during ICC World Cup 2003 is still the best bowling figure from economic rate in the tournament so far.
  • In a match against West Indies Vs Pakistan at 2007 World Cup; a total of 15 out of 19 dismissals were caught-out.

These illustrations represent the relevance of number 15 in the world cups. Cricket fans are now eagerly waiting for the tournament to start this February and hopefully India may win the championship title at MCG in Melbourne at the final. “Common India; Lets win the cup again.”
