Ind vs Pak: Can Pakistan create history at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015?

It is going to be a full house on the jam-packed Adelaide Oval on Sunday, the February 15, when the defending World Champions India will take on against its arch-rival Pakistan. With fans’ excitement about the match soaring newer heights day by day, the upcoming India – Pakistan clash is set to remain a high voltage drama once again.

India vs Pakistan – the biggest cricket battle

Cricket lovers across the borders have already flown to Australia to witness the cricket’s biggest rivalry. A majority chunk of these fans includes the residential and non-residential supporters of India and Pakistan respectively. Adding to the exhilaration of the said match former cricketer Javagal Srinath had recently stated that “India vs Pakistan is the biggest cricket battle”.

Team India’s struggle on the Australian grounds could not change the perception of Indian fans back home. Many the die-hard cricket fans are still of the hope that Dhoni and team will certainly beat Pakistan in Adelaide and clinch the trophy again. To some extent they hold a valid point when it comes to India’s match against Pakistan; Indian cricketers play their heart out and put up their two hundred percent effort as well.

The dramatic return of ace off-spinner Saeed Ajmal to the ODI squad after approval from the ICC and the absence of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar from the Indian cricket team are definitely giving Pakistan some reasons to rejoice. India on the other hand will have to raise their self-esteem after the poor performance at the recent tri-series and need to heavily focus on bringing things back on the track.

Historically, India are having a slight edge over Pakistan, although in the record book. In 1992 both these teams faced each other for the first time in the World Cup. Since then these two teams have fought against each other on five occasions in the consequent editions of the coveted trophy barring ICC World Cup 2007 played in West Indies when both these Cricket giants were shockingly knocked out in the first stage.

Out of these five clashes between two teams, Sachin Tendulkar not only remained an integral member of Indian squad but also contributed immensely to help India win. Even in the last ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, the God of Cricket remained the top-scorer in the match and helped India win the semi-final. He scored a match-winning 85-run knock in that match.

Master Blaster has amassed a total of astonishing 313 runs in five matches against Pakistan at World Cup clashes with a stunning average of 78. He also bagged 3 Man-Of-The-Match awards for his awe-inspiring efforts and powerful performances in these matches. Tendulkar has rated his 98-run knock against Pakistan at Centurion (South Africa) during the 2003 world cup as definitely one of the best in his autobiography Playing It My Way.
