Wimbledon 2015: Leander and Martina win mixed double final

This is Leander’s 16th Grand Slam title win in total and eighth mixed double title at the age of 42. For Hingis, it was the second win at this year’s Wimbledon. She won the women’s double title the previous day on Saturday with Sania Miza.

Leander and Hingis dominating the whole game as the opponents failed to put up any resistance. The first set was over in just below 20 minutes. They went on to break in the second set 5-1.

Babos could not handle the serves and the volley returns of Hingis and Leander was too good for Peya. Hingis served big and remained in the back of the court while Leander was smashing the volleys at the net. Peya and Babos looked helpless as they any tactic they tried, did not work.

It was a display of sheer experience and great volley in the Centre Court which saw a standing ovation for the combination of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis. There was a sense that whatever shot this duo hit could not go wrong. Leander’s game and reflexes seem to be as good as it was ten years back or even better.

After her win Marina said, “I think last night and today was just amazing, the emotions. The chemistry we had today was incredible”.

Leander who was jubilant after the win, said, “Coming out and playing like that on one of the most prestigious courts that we have grown up with and winning like that, again for the second time in a grand slam without losing a set, that is really special”.

Leader and Martina had earlier won the Austrian mixed Open final earlier this year in January.
