Uncertainty remains over future of Tyson Fury

Having gone from Heavyweight Champion to the fallen giant in just a matter of months, the future of Tyson Fury remains up in the air, with many questioning whether the Gypsy King will ever make a return to the ring. The 28-year-old reportedly failed a drugs test in the United States in September, before withdrawing from his much anticipated rematch with Wladimir Klitschko on 29 October in Manchester. Fury has since been stripped of both his WBO and WBA heavyweight titles, and the British Boxing Board of Control have announced that his license has been suspended pending a further investigation into “anti doping and medical conditions”. Fury has also lost his UK license, however their decision to suspend him rather than impose an outright ban has offered the fighter hope for the future. With a hearing set for early November, bookmakers are already offering Tyson Fury odds on favourite to make a successful comeback to the sport in 2017.

Fury is likely to use his clinical depression as a mitigating factor in his defence, with the board choosing to go down a different route to the punishment handed to Ricky Hatton. Hatton was given an indefinite ban following his use of prohibited substances, which the Manchester born boxer eventually had lifted after two years of legal work. Having been offered hope of a return to boxing action, and following another day and another Tyson Fury rumour, American Deontay Wilder has left the door open for a potential encounter between the duo next year. Despite bookmakers Coral not offering odds on the bout yet, they have a full boxing market for all confirmed upcoming fights, as well as potential future bouts. Coral have Fury as the 11/10 outsider should an all-British heavyweight contest against Anthony Joshua go ahead.

Meanwhile, despite having been defeated twice by Fury in the past, compatriot Dereck Chisora has offered his full support for Fury in his, stating that he hopes the former Champion can make a full return to the ring. Chisora even went as far as comparing Fury to some legendary names from the world of boxing, stating:

He said: “Love him or hate him, the Gypsy King, if we talk about Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, people like that – you have to put his name in there.

Elsewhere, Joseph Parker has been tipped to win the WBO title in which Fury vacated recently, by overcoming Andy Ruiz in their upcoming contest. Coral have Parker as the 2/5 favourite for the clash on December 10 in Auckland.
