Strengths:

With 3 IPL trophies, Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful sides in the competition.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the side is regarded as one of the most destructive batsman around. Two West Indies players in the form of Evin Lewis and Kieron Pollard make that batting stronger. Quality T20 all-rounders in Pandya brothers, Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting and JP Duminy can take the games away on their day. Mumbai Indians did not bid for their star player Lasith Malinga which surprised a lot of players. But along with Jasprit Bumrah, they have two experienced overseas pacers in Pat Cummins and Mustafizur Rahman.

Weaknesses:

The spin department looks really weak for the Mumbai Indians as they do not have any specialist spinner in the side. It was Harbhajan Singh who led their spin attack in earlier seasons. This time though, U19 spinner Anukul Roy along with Akila Dananjaya will have to lead the spin department. Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was bought by a whopping 1.9 Crore by Mumbai Indians and he might well have the opportunity as well. Akila has experience of just 30 international games. On tracks which may not assist the quicks, they might miss a specialist spinner.

Mumbai made bid for Parthiv Patel very late in the auction which indicates that he could be a backup wicketkeeper which means Ishan Kishan, the 19-year-old Patna-born player will have to don the gloves for the side. One can feel with less experience, this might well worry the side a bit.

Opportunities:

They are arguably the most successful team in the history of the IPL. Krunal Pandya, the elder brother with a brilliant performance can put his name ahead for the national call. The Indian side is always in the hunt for an all-rounder and the 26-year-old will get the opportunity to do so.

Threats:

Mumbai’s two premier quicks, Pat Cummins and Mustafizur Rahman are injuries prone. Their fitness will be watched carefully by the camp because if they get injured, the trouble for them in the bowling department might hurt them in winning their 4th title of the IPL.
