New Delhi: When there was thousand crore rupees was spent in building the Commonwealth Games venues it was thought that, after the CWG gets end it would be left behind for the local players. But the situation is that after two months of its closing ceremony, many of the venues have been locked up restricting the Athletes to train in high class facilities venues, which has been now owned by government. However, in some of the stadiums the competitions are still going on. The ongoing Basketball Nationals in the capital has been the case to be noted.

The Delhi Government has rejected the Basketball Federation of India’s (BFI) application to host the event at the Thyagaraja Indoor Stadium, where the required three courts can be used up to play. This has forced the organisers to host the event on the outdoor courts at the Modern School on Barakhmba Road as the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, the main venue, has only one court. The nation’s top pistol shooter Samresh Jung is one of those who is not being able to train. It is very unfortunate that the indoor facilities for rifle and pistol disciplines are yet to be opened up for players at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, he said.

He was among the 15 shooters in which some of them were CWG and Asian Games medal winners, who approached the officials at the Karni Singh Range to allow the permission of their to train, but surprisingly there was no response at all. “The officials at Karni Range have been telling us from when that, the indoor ranges will be starting up very soon, but it has been over a month now and still they have not started the stadium,” said Jung.
