London Bridge Is Falling Down

England and Wales Cricket Board

Not one, not two but all the five group matches have gone right down the wire for England. In fact, the English men have forced that to happen and now they find themselves in a serious spot of bother to move to quarters. The prime movers of cricket now find themselves unable to march forward.

The English team were completely out of sorts and had no clue to find where they went wrong simply because they had written off the Dhaka warriors after they crashed to 58 in their last match against West Indies. The batting order could not survive with few scores of 15 and 20’s. Except for Jonathan Trott none in the English camp were consistent throughout the tournament. When Eoin Morgan could play such a scintillating innings where was he all this time now? Paul Collingwood is definitely heading for a disastrous end to his great cricketing carrier. There is no use in playing him down the line up when the team is in need for a swashbuckling innings. You have to play him up or send him home packing. If the ECB is looking for emotions behind that move then only they will have to pity themselves for not making the quarters. To add to the miseries injury prone KP and Stuart Broad have already left. The bowling can only sustain with some runs on the board but with 225 they still can hope but not move as a confident unit. With Jimmy Anderson not striking the new ball has been left ineffective for Strauss.

It’s good to have close games but being a part of it for five times does not mean you are pushing hard at the game, it only says you are trying too hard to push yourself out of the tournament. The Chokers had to prove themselves at some point of time (as they have been doing so) and they gave Strauss men something to cheer about.  You are in a position to finish a game chasing 338 in the 49th over but you failed and you feel great about Warne predicting that a match tie was brilliant. You leave the Dutch to get the upper hand and leak nearly 80 runs in the depth overs to finish at 294 and you feel the satisfaction of chasing the match comfortably. Once the English skipper spares a thought for the above questions then it puts him in the best position to foresee a win against the Carribeans.

The English team is great mix of talent and a world cup in could take them to cloud nine. But they will have to rethink their strategy and approach to the game against West Indies at Chennai. If they count on crowd support, behavior of pitch, and such minute feelings and emotions they could be well packing their kits now to their homeland. It’s high time for them prove their metal and let’s hope for a thriller on cards and an outcome that could bring an ashes rivalry for the tournament’s first quarterfinal.
