Sania Mirza
“Sania Mirza” this used to be the sensational word among hundreds of Indian tennis fans around five years ago which was the time she pulled rabbits out of the hat in every possible tournament, but things have twisted a bit. Soon after gaining so many accolades, the appearances of Sania in the commercials, her weddings and so many other convolutions pulled her back; Sania is now seated in the World No. 90.
After 2007, nearly four years of break, Sania played the quarter-finals at the Family Circle Cup, on Saturday. She lost to the 11th seeded Chinese, Peng Shuai – with the set of 6-2, 2-6, 2-6. This crash was unacceptable in her career. This is also the QF match she is playing after her last one at San Diego in 2007.
Though Singles seemed not of her kind this time, she also reached the QF Doubles with her Russian partner, Elena Vesnina. This unseeded Indian-Russia amalgamation caused a great mishap in the first round in which the pair outscored the second seeded Lisa Raymond and Liezel Huber.
Sania and Vesnina will be playing their next match against Russian Alla Kudryavtseva and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia.
