With over 100 million Indian Hearts waiting to see the opening of the most awaited games in Indian history, “Commonwealth Games XIX”.

“I have much pleasure in declaring the games open” the voice of Prince Charles misted the entire arena. Then President Prathibha Patil said “Let the games begin” Those moments held India to the pinnacle of Pride and Joy.

“Unity in diversity” being the theme was the apt phrase of the day. The games stood as a reason to celebrate just few days after the most awaited conflicting verdict.

The show made every eye gob smacked with awe. The Rhythm of India showed we are Incredible, showing cultural diversity within the country. Spectators already in a trance following the opening part of the show were spellbound as the Tree of Knowledge sprang to life.

In lieu of the Bodhi Tree, the vividly-lit and multihued display was choreographed by some of India’s most celebrated exponents of dance. Tabla, Sitar and Mridangam players joined Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathak, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi dancers in paying honor to India’s famed Guru-Shishya tradition.

During the show, 5,000 years of India’s cultural history were depicted in seven acts that used music, dance and light to tell the story in the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

Abinav Bindra read out the oath after carrying the national flag. For Abinav Bindra it was a dream comes true moment to represent the Indian contingent and to carry the flag was a great honor.

Vijender Singh, Mary Kom, Samresh Jung and Sushil Kumar did their honors to the baton. Finally Sushil Kumar handed it over to Prince Charles with a riot of emotions on his face.

The applause for every dignitary clouded up the entire arena. But the loudest cheers were offered to a person close to every Indian heart, Dr. Abdul Kalam.

The humble treasured scientist has always never failed to grab a piece of everyone’s heart.

Among the colors, sounds, fun and the frolic, there were some absentees who chose to stay out of the light. Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi missing the action and the entire hockey team also opted to stay in village to give a better anticipation of performance.
