Can Indian Cricket Go Australian Way?

Look at current Indian Cricket Team which has fantastic bench strength and can easily produce two international teams. Now, Indian team is looking to go Australian way, when they dominated last decade of cricket. Truly, India has the talent to be at top for at least this decade. Although West Indies tour has been low key, but youngsters have shown their abilities to perform without senior players’ presence.

When the team was announced for West Indies tour, we were seeing it as IPL vs Country. On IPL has become blessing in disguise for young turks, as Indian ODI team for the West Indies found itself without the services of its key players like Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan – all of whom part of the Indian team which won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 a few months back.

The ODI series already in their kitty, the team should give chance to players who did not feature in first 3 ODI.  The series tested India’s bench strength and in particular the young guns, who did not have the backing of the seniors to guide them on the field. Given the shortcomings of this West Indian team, how would one rate India’s ODI series triumph in the Caribbean? While it would be hard to take away credit from Suresh Raina’s team – the side has shown flair, fight and end-game skills. Yes, they are yet to be tested against better sides, they will get ready as time passes and reign of Indian cricket is passed onto them in future. Winning is a lot about confidence and this side here is not short of belief.

Raina has led the side very well. He shuffled his bowlers capably and has been smart with his field placements. He used leg-spinner Amit Mishra immaculately. Rohit Sharma has played crucial innings when needed. And he has been the biggest gain for India from the series. During his innings on Saturday, the calm Rohit comprehended the situations; he knew when to play it safe and when to attack. He has all the traits to be a finisher in the ODIs. Leg-spinner Mishra has been a revolution in spin department Parthiv Patel played some cameos at the top of the order and kept wickets reasonably well. Seamer Munaf Patel has bowled with zest and control and senior cricketer Harbhajan Singh’s combative instincts came to the fore once again.

Now, this Indian team is showing promising performances to be at top and their bench strength is also being tested. The same things happened to Australia, when they won World Cup in 1999 and dominated the cricket world with some great senior players and young talent. If Indian cricket can keep on producing good bench strength, then we should see them dominate cricket world like Australia did in the last decade.
