David Beckham – 2012 London Olympics

David Beckham has expressed his desire to represent his country at the 2012 London Olympics.

The former England skipper revealed that it would be indeed a wonderful moment if he gets a chance to represent England for the 2012 Olympics. Although, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star says that he is unsure about what role he could play at London, he desires to be a part of the England Team.

David Beckham stated that he would be honoured to play for the national team at the 2012 London Olympics. All the sides going to London will consist of players aged under 23, but about 2-3 players above that age can feature in the squad. David Beckham, the current LA Galaxy star, admitted that he would love to play his part for his national side. Beckham has won 115 caps for England since making his debut against Moldova in 1996.

Beckham last featured for England in October 2009. He stated “Decisions are still to be made but I’d love to be part of it.”

“I’m an East End lad and being English born and bred, it would be something I’d be very honoured to be part of.”

However, Beckham says that he does not know what role he would play at the Olympics. However, the midfielder is keen to stress that he would prefer to take part as a player, rather than taking up the managerial job.

Beckham said “There are 13 months to go and there are a lot of decisions to be made but I would love to be part of it.”

Beckham also insisted that the age factor has nothing to do with his career. He stressed that he does not feel like a 36-year-old and possesses the legs to play further football in the coming future.

Beckham added “I’m sure I’d be better as a player than a coach, so I’ll have to wait and see. I still feel as if I’m 21 when I’m playing. I still love the game like I did when I was 21. I still feel as fit.”

“Everyone knows I have looked after myself — eating-wise, fitness-wise. So I’m not in bad shape and I’ll continue to work hard and hopefully I can be part of it.

Beckham further added “Football will be a massive part of the Olympics and it will be really exciting to see that.”

“This is the first time I will have been to an Olympics and I’ll probably be there with my children.”

“Football has been a part of my life for many years and to be a part of that would be incredible. We’ll see what role I’ll play in the build-up or at the Olympics, but I’ll be there as a fan.”

Will Beckham feature in the England side is a debatable question. However, it will be indeed a wonderful moment for all the fans across the globe to see the star once again show his magic with those unmatchable curling free kicks, the long balls and the perfect passes, which just seems breathtaking.
