Wilshere Promises To Stay At Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has promised to stay at the club till the end of his career, showing a rare loyalty that seems to be lacking among most footballers nowadays. With two key players – Fabregas and Nasri – leaving the club this season, this promise would provide some solace to the club’s fans.

He spoke about his time at the club – from his youth days to the first team – and described how he hoped that – along with his current teammates from the United Kingdom – he could restore the team to its former glory.

“I can promise that. I’ve been at the club since I was nine, I’ve learned to love it. From the Vieira days, to the Bergkamps, to Fabregas and everyone – I’ve watched them come through,” Wilshere said. “And now they’ve moved on and there’s a crop of new players coming through. We’ve got Ramsey, Kieran Gibbs and myself and hopefully we can create something really special.”

After the brutal start to the season, he stated he was not blind to the team’s inadequacies. “Yeah, we seem to get better and better every week. We had a bad start to the season and everyone knows that and I’m not going to lie and say we did well,” he told iFilm London. “We didn’t [play well] and the boys had to play together [for a few games] because they are new players.”

“Today was one of our best performances of the season. We passed it around like the old Arsenal and we seem to be back to winning ways,” he said, appreciating the performance that led the team to a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

An ankle injury has kept him away from the action this season, but Wilshere is optimistic about the future. “I was looking forward to this season. I really thought we could push on and do something. To get a setback is massively frustrating but I’ll be back in December and hopefully we can push off from there.”

Thrust into the first team at the tender age of 16, two years later he became an integral part of the regular starting line-up. Last season, his passing demonstrated knowledge of the game well above his age. His tenacity while tackling is an important factor in helping Arsenal retain possession and with Song, he formed the first-choice defensive pairing in Arsenal’s midfield. His tireless performance in the fixture away to Manchester United highlighted his enthusiasm and love for the club.

With Fabregas leaving for Barcelona this season, Wilshere had moved to a more offensive role, eschewing his sideways passing in an attempt to find a killer through ball. His love for Arsenal reminds one of former Arsenal captain Tony Adams, affectionately known as “Mr. Arsenal”. Wilshere said, “I love the club and want to be part of the future.”
