European Football – Produce Or Purchase?

European Football

European Football

Modern day football keeps proving that money can buy success, but, many people still believe in creating success by nurturing talent.

Real Madrid FC is known for its attractive dominant football around the world. The success that they have achieved is very difficult to match. There is no success secret behind this team; from ages their motive has been crystal clear to hire the best players in their respective positions. The world knows their way to succeed but hardly anyone can replicate it because of the amount of money this club spends season after season in order to buy the best players. ‘Real Madrid’ is the richest club in the world and arguably the most successful one.

From ‘England’, ‘Chelsea’ & ‘Manchester City’ have followed this money spending technique to succeed and yes, they have succeeded! Both these teams were regarded as decent teams but were never regarded as contenders to win any title they competed for. But, today, they are dominant teams not only in the ‘English Premier League‘ but also in Europe. The face of the London club ‘Chelsea’ changed when Russian billionaire ‘Roman Abrahmovich’ took over the club and bought world class players by spending millions behind every player. ‘Manchester City’ too, like Chelsea, is owned by a billionaire and he transformed an average team into a dangerous one.

Great teams like ‘Liverpool’, ‘Newcastle United’, ‘Deportivo La Coruna’, ‘AS Roma’ etc. are struggling from financial problems and interestingly their performances haven’t been good at all after their monetary problems started. Does this mean that money stands for success? Does this affect the game? Or does it mean clubs with less financial powers cannot succeed?

The answer to these questions would be clubs like ‘Manchester United’, ‘Ajax Amsterdam’, ‘Barcelona’, ‘Arsenal’ etc. All these clubs are listed amongst the best teams in the world; they have managed to do it without the money. The motive of these clubs is to make players better instead of buying better players. ‘Barcelona’ didn’t purchase ‘Lionel Messi’… they produced him. They discovered the talent in him, trained him and today he is the ‘World’s Best Player’.

‘Manchester United’ & ‘Ajax Amsterdam’ are the biggest producers of the best players. These clubs make headlines for selling players on a record fee and not for buying them. They have faith in their youth academies to produce fine players and this plan has worked very effectively.

Jose Mourinho, the most successful club manager today, is known for choosing the right player at the right time. He says, “I don’t see how successful the player is, I believe in effectively and as long as a player does his job I won’t mind spending millions or pay 50 bucks for a match. If you can do the job you are assigned with, you are in the team if you can’t then you are out”.

It seems like success is the ultimate goal in European Football and there are two ways to achieve it…. purchasing talent or producing talent.

My name is Akshay Kulkarni, 19 years old studying in M.V.L.U college. Life interests me a lot, the way it works and proves how it is bigger than anything else in the world. As a BMM student I should be observing, analyzing and interpreting what’s going around, but, I am more interested in asking why and how things are happening. I try my best to keep my personal opinions, moods and feelings away from my way of thinking as influence of these things can deviate me away from knowing the truth behind things.I have a very unique way of looking at things; I think it’s my strength and my identity. I always try to express my ideas in any form possible i.e on paper, verbally, in sounds and movies. I believe in my ideas and I am always in quest for people who are interested in understanding them rather than opposing them.
