English Cricket Team

This must be in the minds of English cricket team, who face a do or die situation for their last match against West Indies. They head in to their final Group match against West Indies knowing a defeat will send them back to country. The encounter is scheduled to be held at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Moreover, the recent dream runs of Bangladesh and some upsets by Ireland has opened the world cup table. So even if England wins they are not assured of a place in Quarter finals.

This has been the happy hunting ground for them, winning their only match held here against the Proteas. But the tournament so far has been like a see-saw for the Englishmen, losing to minnows twice, tie with Indians and a very close win over Proteas. They had been in a similar situation last year where they went on to win the T20 World Cup, ODI being a different ball game all together.

England would require and all round performance from their team. The team members should be willing to contribute more than 100% to the side. They had either played badly with the ball and well with the bat or badly with bat and well with the ball as quoted by their team member. Against the Bangla it was their batting which gave them a defeat and against Irish it was their bowling which contributed to their defeat. Even in the encounter against India their bowling played a spoilsport. So against the Caribbean’s they must be hoping for a good all round performance in batting, bowling and fielding.

England already suffered a blow when Captain Strauss and fast bowler Anderson missed the training due to illness. English spinner Swann was hopeful of the same performance against the West Indies too. But Suleiman Bain is also equally capable of producing some marvelous spells. Not to forget what Pollard is capable of and Kemar Roach can break the backbone of any batting side. It’s going to be a cracker between these two teams.

But at the end it’s England who wants a Win desperately to keep their chances afloat for the World cup and continue their winning streak after Ashes. The good news for the Windies is that even a loss in the both matches against India as well as England won’t end their tour and would still seal a berth for them in the quarters.
