New Mantra of IPL 2011: Be Lions Of Den

IPL 2011

IPL 2011

The first impression of IPL 2011 statistics give is that lions of den are most comprehensively setting on a perch. This IPL season has seen 4 teams who are distinctly champions of den and roosting at the top of the table. Let us check out the facts of these top 4 teams. The stats are up to yesterday.

Chennai Super Kings:

Home Games Won: 6/6

Away Games Won: 2/6

Chennai, the IPL champions last year are currently at the top. Look at their home stat, it is out of out. They are true lions of den and they are roaring loud at their den. If Chennai tops the table, it plays Qualifier 1 away from home at Mumbai. But even if Chennai lose in Qualifier 1, their desires will be high at home for Qualifier 2. Hope they will reach finals, which is also in their backyard and lift the cup once again.

Mumbai Indians:

Home Games Won: 5/6

Away Games Won: 3/5

Mumbai, the IPL runner-ups last year, are currently second lions of den. Their performances have been terrific and are looking good to make amends for last years lose in final. They are leading up to be at top 2 spots. If they win Qualifier 1 at home, they reach finale. Also, if Chennai features in finale, it might be a déjà vu.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Home Games Won: 4/6

Away Games Won: 3/5

Kolkata is the only team which never featured in semi-final stages other than IPL debutants Pune and Kochi. Kolkata’s resurgence in this IPL season is attributed to changes in team, this new team has shown fitting spirit. They have to win 2 out of their remaining games, to be in playoff.  They are at 3rd stop of lions of den and they should secure spot in playoff before the final league game at home on May 22. So that it is not left far too late to feature in playoff.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Home Games Won: 3/5 [1 Abandoned]

Away Games Won: 4/6

Bangalore is at 4th spot of lions of den. The inclusion of Gayle and contributions of other players has made Bangalore, a force to reckon. They reached finals once, but couldn’t hit the last punch. But this time around their pursuance powered by Gayle might reach its penultimate summit.

Now, race for these teams might be spoilt at their own risk. These teams are bound to be top 4 at the end of league stage.
