Wave World Kabaddi League comes to Bhatinda




Bhatinda, Sept 12, 2014: The historical town of Punjab, Bhatinda will witness live Kabaddi action with Wave World Kabaddi League (Wave WKL), first international Kabaddi league matches scheduled on September 13, 14 and 15 in the city. After completing five successful weekends in four different cities and across two continents in spectacular locations like O2 Arena, London, LG Arena, Birmingham and Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the matches will be held in Rajindra College in Bhatinda. The second weekend of Punjab leg will feature six matches with six teams in action and where strong Punjab component, Punjab Thunder will take on Rapper and singers team, Yo Yo Tigers

Wave World Kabaddi League comes to Bhatinda

After four weeks of weaving magic, Wave WKL has attained a reach of over 19 million in the Hindi speaking markets of TAM (television audience measurement) and over 3 million in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh market.

As the Kabaddi league comes to the oldest city of Punjab, the native Kabaddi players are excited and all geared up to give tough time to others. Some players from Bhatinda who are shining well in Wave WKL are:

  • Gurlal Singh (Raider), Royal Kings USA: Amongst the Top 5 raiders of the league, Gurlal is a fine sportsman. He embodies the sportman spirit. He had played in the Kabaddi World Cup twice & local Canada matches several times. He learnt Kabaddi at DAV College Bhatinda.
  • Bohar Singh kauri (Raider), Royal Kings USA- A Class raider, Bohar Singh is sharp and agile. He has played in Canada and England and has great record of successful raids.
  • Maninderjeet Singh (Raider), Royal Kings USA- An old and experienced player, Manindrejeet, knows the technical nuances the sport. He plays an important role in helping his team, Royal Kings USA during preparations. He has played in local Kabaddi tournaments in England.

Talking on the preparation of the team Royal Kings USA, Coach Makhan Chrick, said, “We are working hard to improve our stop line. We are looking forward to Saturday match against Khalsa Warriors, their performance so far has been commendable. Our target is to defeat Khalsa Warriors.”

Wave WKL matches will be played in four cities in Punjab, namely, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Jalandar and Amritsar. The Wave WKL matches are broadcasted on Sony Six, the official broadcasting partner for the league in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Pargat Singh, Commissioner, Wave WKL said, “We are pleased to start the second weekend of Punjab leg of Wave WKL. Wave WKL is a huge platform for Kabaddi talent across the globe. All our teams are also very excited and looking forward to playing in Bhatinda. After receiving overwhelming response in the previous destinations we are happy to bring this game to the home land. We hope to recreate the ‘Kabaddi magic’ in the oldest city of Punjab.”

Bhatinda has been a host to inaugural matches of Kabaddi World Cup for the last three editions. However, Wave WKL will bring the Indian and international players together under one platform in the city.

On the occasion Mr. Raman Raheja, CEO, Wave WKL, said “Wave World Kabaddi League has been successful in establishing itself as an international sports brand as we have received encouraging TV reach in HSM of TAM and similar response in terms of social mentions as compared to other sporting leagues which took place in the past. As Punjab is the home ground of Kabaddi so we expect overwhelming response from the audience during our stay in the state.”

The Punjab leg will have 22 matches spread across 4 weekends.
