Roger Federer

Roger Federer marched into the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters held on Tuesday with a 6-2, 6-1 win against German Philipp Kohlschreiber. The German opponent was totally crushed in Federer’s opening match in less than an hour. Federer has not lost a single match to any German since his defeat to Nicolas Kiefer at Halle on grass in 2002. Philipp Kohlschreiber was his 47th success in a row over German opponent and a sixth victory without a loss against the opponent Kohlschreiber.

After a victory into the third round Federer said that he knew Philipp’s game quite well as both of them had trained together in Switzerland late last year. He is 16-time Grand Slam winner who last played in the Monte Carlo in 2009 but he lost in the third round to compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka. Coming off a first-round bye, he led off to a solid start, losing just two points in the first three games and taking a 4-1 lead. He nested the opening set in 30 minutes and took less than ten minutes or so to finish out the second in royal fashion.

Kohlschreiber who is ranked 32nd, fell prey to the Swiss precision as Federer warmed up his clay game at the event. It is in this principality that he lost the final matches in 2006, 2007 and 2008 against Rafael Nadal, the top seed now.

Federer has played the event nine times previously and holds a 23-4 record on the season and 22-9 in Monte Carlo.

Rafael Nadal, the top seed Andy Murray, the third seed are set to play their opening matches for the principality on Wednesday.

I guess Roger has made a vow to inflict pain on the Germans!
