Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) represents the city of Punjab with their home ground located in Mohali. Ever since the inception of IPL in 2008, the team is always counted as a stronger contender for the championship but they haven’t won a single edition of the tournament ever.

Kings XI Punjab is co-owned by the Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Wadia group and Dabur as well. However, barring IPL 2008 and IPL 2014, the team has failed to make a big impact. In 2008, the KXIP moved past the semi final stage and in IPL 2014 the team was the runner-up. Last year, their performance was even more lackadaisical staying at the bottom of the points table at VIVO IPL 9.

This year, the explosive Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will be at the helm managing the captaincy of this franchisee. They made quite a few smart move at this year’s IPL auction held last month at Bengaluru. They grabbed the English classy batsman Eoin Morgan this year. His vast experience and astute batting under pressure will certainly help the team move forward at crunchy situations. Can they make it to the play off stage this IPL season? Wait, only the time can give a perfect answer to it.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP): Strengths at a Glance

  • The team has an experienced combination of opening batsmen like Murali Vijay, Hashim Amla, and Martin Guptill.
  • The team has a very strong middle order with batsmen like Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Eoin Morgan and Axar Patel.
  • Fast Bowlers like Varun Aaron, Mohit Sharma, T Natarajan and Marcus Stoinus will spearhead Punjab’s bowling attack and it seems a pretty formidable bowling attack from hindsight.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP): Weaknesses at a Glance

  • The team has failed to even qualify for play-offs stage in both IPL 8 and IPL 9 in the past two years.
  • The team doesn’t have a quality all-rounder in the team barring Glenn Maxwell and Axar Patel.
  • The performance of domestic cricketers in the squad has been quite ordinary in the last few months except T Natarajan. Natarajan bowled well at TN cricket league held a few months back.
  • Captaincy is always a big issue for KXIP. In the last 9 seasons, the team has got around 9 captains. It shows the team’s inconsistent approach and faith in captains.
  • The team doesn’t have a specialist and international left arm fast bowler in its squad unlike other teams. It has recently released Mitchell Johnson who spearheaded Punjab’s bowling attack in the past with his fiery left-arm bowling.
